MUSIC REVIEW (Curren$y - "Pilot Talk")

After months of intense internet anticipation, the New Orleans, Louisiana native Curren$y has finally dropped his third album. The self-proclaimed "Hot Spitta" returns right where he left off after the critically acclaimed 2009 effort This Aint No Mixtape and a slew of successful mixtapes including Smokee Robinson and his collaborative effort with fellow 4/20er Wiz Khalifa How Fly. After about three failed label situations Curren$y has breathed new life into his career thanks to born-again entrepreneur & former Roc-A-Fella Records CEO Damon Dash. In exchage for becoming Dash's flagship artist on his DD172/BluRoc venture, Dash gave Curren$y what he was probably lacking his whole career...complete creative expression and control over his music. Armed with North Carolina beatsmith Ski Beatz, Curren$y has crafted what might be one of the best Hip Hop albums of the year. Ski demonstrates his chemistry with Spitta right out of the gate on the album opener entitled "Example", Spitta perfectly navigates through the high guitar riffs with his lazy and unorthodox southern cadences. The duo keep the momentum going with the rock-influenced "Audio Dope II", the eerie and dark backdrop of "King Kong", and the Snoop Dogg assisted slow groove "Seat Change".Spitta shows his aggressive side on the Nesby Phips collaboration "Prioritize", where Curren$y saves his most braggadocious rhymes and rides the production with a fearless bravado with verses that give the listener a glance into the rappers' lifestyle (women and weedsmoke not included). The real gem of the album is the Mos Def /Ski Beatz co-production "Breakfast", where Spitta sounds at home rhyming about the perfect morning over Jazz horns and bouncy strings. Curren$y has finally found a sound...and a home after years of honing his craft with countless mixtape appearances and it shows with this effort. The sky is the limit for Curren$y Da Hot Spitta (excuse the pun)    SCORE 8 Beatz out of 10
